2. W.P.No.23009 of 2024 has been filed seeking issuance of a writ of mandamus directing the respondents 1 and 2 to dispose the
Second Appeal preferred by the petitioner dated 25.3.2022 as per G.O.Ms.No.147, Revenue Department, dated 17.3.2016 and to proceed with the enquiry regarding genuineness of social status and verification of Kurumans (ST) community of the petitioner and his children namely (1) M.Venkatasubramanian, (2) M.Kanchana and
(3) M.Soundaraj that they belong to Kurumans (ST) Community based upon the verification report of the State Level Scrutiny Committee in Proceedings No.21289/CVIII/2008 dated 10.6.2014 in respect of petitioner's father's own brother's son C.Govindaraj and Proceedings No.15291/CV-4(1)2021-7, dated 15.5.2024 in respect of petitioner's father's own sister's son P.Shanmugam.
3. When the matter was taken up for hearing, learned Government Advocate filed a status report, wherein it has been asserted that the cases of the petitioners have been referred to the Director, Tribal Welfare and the Deputy Superintendent of Police, SC/ST Vigilance Cell, Salem Region to verify the status of community claim made by the petitioners. It is further stated that on receipt of the enquiry report from the Deputy Superintendent of
Police, Salem, action will be taken by the State Level Scrutiny Committee and an enquiry date will be fixed.
4. Considering the aforesaid submission made by learned Government Advocate and fact that the appeals preferred by the petitioners are pending from 25.3.2022, we dispose of these writ petitions with a direction to the first respondent, viz., the Tamil Nadu State Level Scrutiny Committee, to expedite the entire process and pass appropriate orders in accordance with law within a period of eight weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order. There shall be no order as to costs.
