Respondents PRAYER: Writ Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India praying to issue a Writ of Mandamus, directing the respondents concerned for the restoration of Vedaranyam road which is 35 feet wide running to the extent of 150 meters between Velankanni main bus stand via Annai Nagar and goes up to Muslim street in 6th ward of Velankanni Town Panchayat in Nagapattinam District for the use of public in general.

O R D E R
(Made by The Hon'ble The Chief Justice) The grievance made in the public interest litigation is that a 35 feet road by name Vedaranyam road, connecting the main bus stand in Velankanni from Annai Nagar within the limits of 5th, 6th and 7th ward of present Velankanni Town Panchayat in Nagapattinam District, has been encroached upon and blocked and despite representation of the petitioner, there has been no response. The allegation is specifically qua a stretch of 150 meters between Velankanni main bus stand via Annai Nagar and the entrance up to Muslim Street in 6th ward, which is stated to have been completely blocked and destroyed with denial of access to the residents for over five years prior to the filing of the writ petition.
2. No counter affidavit has been filed and the current situation is not known.
3. Learned Government Pleader states that the Officer concerned is the fifth respondent/District Collector and thus, we direct the said respondent to carry out an inspection of the site and if any infringement of law is found, to take action in accordance with law after notice to all concerned. The necessary exercise be carried out within two months of the receipt of the order and a copy of the reasoned decision be also communicated to the petitioner.
