(Order of the Court was made by Dr.Anita Sumanth J.) The petitioner, father of one Appu @ Rajendran (convict), confined in Central Prison - I, Puzhal has made a representation dated 27.05.2026 before the authorities seeking 60 days furlough under the provisions of the Tamil Nadu Prisons (Release on Furlough) Rules, 2026 (in short 'Rules').
2. Mr.C.R.Malarvannan, learned counsel for the Government of Tamil Nadu (Criminal Side), who accepts notice for the respondents, on instructions, states that the representation has been received and is under consideration of the authorities.
3. In light of the same, it would suffice, and would, in fact, be more appropriate that the authorities consider the plea of furlough. The competent authority to consider the request for furlough under Rule 6(1) of the Rules is the Director General. Rule 2(1)(b) of the Rules defines 'Director General', to be the Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services, Tamil Nadu, who has not been arrayed as a respondent in this Writ Petition.
4. In light of the stipulation in the Rules, there is a direction to the Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services, Tamil Nadu to consider representation of the petitioner dated 27.05.2026 and pass orders in accordance with the Rules, within a period of four (4) weeks from today.
5. This Writ Petition is disposed as above.
