O R D E R
This writ petition has been filed for the issue of writ of Mandamus directing the respondents to pay interest to the petitioners for the belated payment of the commutation amount. 2.
Heard Mr.D.Anand Raja, learned counsel for the petitioners and Mr.Murali Vinodh, learned counsel for 1st respondent and Mr.C.S.K.Sathish, learned counsel for 2nd respondent. 3.
The case of the petitioners is that they were serving with Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation for more than 30 years. The petitioners had retired from service during the year 2018. The retirement benefits of the petitioners were settled only during the year 2019, nearly after an year and therefore, they have sought for interest for belated payment of commutation amount.
4.
The grievance of the petitioners is that even though they retired from service as early as in the year 2018, the respondents settled the commutation amount only on 19.09.2019 and thereby, there was 2/4
enormous delay in settling this amount. In view of the same, the petitioners submitted a representation to the respondents seeking for interest. Since the same was not considered, the present writ petition has been filed.
5.
Taking into consideration the facts and circumstances of the case and the grievance expressed by the petitioners, there shall be a direction to the 2nd respondent to pay interest at the rate of 6% for the belated payment of commutation amount to the petitioners within a period of eight (8) weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order. 6.
The petitioners are directed to submit a fresh representation to the 2nd respondent along with a copy of this order. This Writ Petition is disposed of with the above direction. No costs. Consequently, the connected miscellaneous petition is closed. 07.08.2024 Internet: Yes/No Index: Yes/No rka 3/4
