ORDER

The instant writ petition has been filed to direct the respondents to settle the interest for the belated payment of retirement benefits such as gratuity, commutation of pension, provident fund and other retirement benefits payable to the petitioner with interest at 12% .

2. The facts of the case, in brief are that the petitioner joined the respondent corporation on 31.01.1990 and retired as Checking Inspector on 30.06.2023 after 33 years of service. However, the terminal benefits were not paid immediately after retirement. The benefits, including Provident Fund, Gratuity, and Commutation of Pension totalling Rs.31,66,247/-, were deposited into the petitioner's account only on 16.04.2025, after a delay of 22 months. The petitioner has since sought interest on the belated payment through a representation dated 29.04.2025, which has not been considered. Thus, the petitioner approached this Court by filing the present writ petition.

3. Learned counsel for the petitioner would submit that though the respondents have settled the retirement benefits, there is a delay. However, for the delay, the respondents did not pay interest. Hence, the petitioner made a

representation on 29.04.2025.

4. At this juncture, the learned Standing Counsel for the respondents would submit that they would pay interest at the rate of 6%, as ordered in a similar writ petition.

5. Considering the submissions of the learned Standing counsel, this Court directs the respondents to pay interest at 6% per annum on the delayed payment of the terminal benefits within a period of six weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.

6. With the above directions, the writ petition is disposed of. No costs. Consequently, the connected miscellaneous petitions, if any, are closed. 08-07-2025 gd Index:Yes/No Speaking/Non-speaking order Internet:Yes
