WP No. 24290 of 2026 PRAYER: Writ Petition has been filed under Article 226 of Constitution of India praying to issue a writ of mandamus directing the respondent to pay 18 percentage per annum interest for the belated payment of terminal benefits from the date of retirement i.e 31.5.2025 to till the date of actual payment made i.e. 11.03.2026 to petitioner within stipulated time. WP No. 24302 of 2026 PRAYER: Writ Petition has been filed under Article 226 of Constitution of India praying to issue a writ of mandamus directing the respondent to pay 18 percentage per annum interest for the belated payment of terminal benefits from the date of retirement i.e 31.05.2025 to till the date of actual payment made i.e. 11.03.2026 to petitioner within stipulated time. Mr.C.Gautamaraj, Standing Counsel COMMON ORDER The writ petitions are filed for the below reliefs: "directing the respondent to pay 18 percentage per annum interest for the belated payment of terminal benefits from the date of retirement to till the date of actual payment made to petitioners within stipulated time.".

2. The brief facts which has culminated in the filing of these writ petitions are set out below:

2.1. It is the case of the petitioners that they were working as Special Grade Conductor, Senior Grade Conductor, Tradesman and Senior Grade Driver in the respondent Corporation respectively and retired from service. The respondent settled the terminal benefits of the petitioners with a delay. Therefore, the respondent is legally bound to pay interest to the petitioners. Therefore, the petitioners made a representation to the respondent to pay the interest at the rate of 18% p.a., for the belated payment of the petitioners terminal benefits. Since there is no response, the petitioners are before this Court.

3. Heard the learned Counsel on either side and perused the materials available on records.

4. Admittedly, the terminal benefits has been paid belatedly for no fault of the petitioners. Therefore, the petitioners are entitled to interest on the same. Therefore, the Writ petitions are allowed as prayed for and a mandamus is issued directing the respondent to disburse the 6% interest for belated payment of terminal benefits from the date of retirement to till the date of actual payment

made to the petitioners within a period of one (1) month from the date of receipt of a copy of this order. No costs.
