Respondents Prayer: Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, praying to issue a WRIT OF HABEAS CORPUS directing the respondent No.3 to provide immediate medical treatment to Annamalai, S/o.Marikan, Life Convict, aged about 60 years, confined in Central Prison, Vellore and further directing the respondents 1 to 3 to take appropriate criminal and disciplinary action against respondent 4 who had assaulted the aforesaid prisoner.

ORDER

[Order of the Court was made by S.NAGAMUTHU,J] The petitioner is the Director of Prisoners Rights Forum, a registered Organisation. He has come up with this petition seeking a direction to the respondents to provide medical treatment to one Mr.Annamalai, son of Marikan, who is a life convict, aged about 60 years, having lodged in Central Prison, Vellore.

We have heard the learned Counsel for the petitioner and the learned Additional Public Prosecutor appearing for the respondents and we have also perused the records carefully. 3.

The learned Additional Public Prosecutor would submit that it is true that the life convict is suffering from Schizophrenia for which he has given appropriate treatment. 4.

Recording the same, we issue a direction to the respondents to ensure that there is proper medical attention and care to Mr.Annamalai, S/o.Marikan, Life Convict. 5.
