Respondents PRAYER: Petition under Article 226 of the Constitution of India for issuance of a writ of Mandamus to direct respondents 2 to 4 to cancel the patta issued to respondents 5 to 30 (non-Harijans) for land in Survey No.111/2, Vadapudupattu, Vengili Village and Post, Ambur Taluk, Vellore District as informed by the second respondent vide letter No.Na.Ka.A1/1415/1987, dated 30.8.2015. ORDER

(Order of the Court was made by the Hon'ble Chief Justice) On hearing the learned counsel for the parties and perusal of the counter affidavit, the learned Additional Government Pleader submits that it can be recorded that the clarification Letter No.S3 11667/97, dated 6.5.1999 is still in force and, thus, Schedule Castes who have converted to other faiths like Christianity are treated as Backward or Most Backward Classes only for purposes of educational and employment benefits and cannot avail any other benefit through the State Adi-Dravidar Welfare Department.

2. In order to avoid issuance of any unauthorized patta, this be re-circulated to the departments concerned. The petition, accordingly, stands disposed of. No costs. Sd/- Asst.Registrar (CS II ) /true copy/ Sub Asst. Registrar
