The instant writ petition has been filed with a prayer for issuing a Mandamus directing the respondents to consider the case of the petitioner for promotion as Sub-Inspector from the year 2000, Inspector from the year 2018 and Assistant Commissioner from the year 2022 on par with his juniors Thiru G.Shanmugam, who was also Head Constable in 1993 batch.

The learned counsel for the petitioner would submit that he has given representation to consider him for promotion as a Sub-Inspector from the year 2000 and thereafter for the consequential promotion vide representation dated 13.06.2025 and such representation is yet to be considered by the respondents. It is the further submission of the petitioner that even prior to this representation, he has given several representations in 2/5
the year 2023. However, the same was not considered by the respondents.

At this juncture, the learned Special Government Pleader appearing for the respondents would fairly submit that the petitioner retired during the year 2023 and that he has given his representation seeking a retrospective promotion with effect from 2000. However, he would further submits that they would consider the said representation of the petitioner on its own merits and in accordance with law.
4. Heard the learned counsel for both sides and perused the materials available on record.

In view of the above submission, without going into the merits of this Writ Petition, this Court deems it appropriate to direct the respondents to consider the petitioner's representation and pass orders on its own merits and in accordance with law, within a period of 12 weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.

6. In the result, this Writ Petition is disposed of with the above observations. No costs.
