In Criminal Appeal No.47 of 2020, an appeal preferred by the State against the order of acquittal and this Court reversed the findings and convicted the accused by allowing the appeal preferred by the State. The said order was passed on 21.12.2022. 2.

In the course of dealing with appeal, this Court found that the convicted accused preferred appeal and obtained bail of Suspension of Sentence and not property complying the conditional order and not cooperating for the disposal of the appeal. Hence directed, Mr.R.Sudhakar, Inspector General of Police, West Zone, Coimbatore, to submit status report about the pending Non Bailable Warrant. Accordingly, the Inspector General of Police submitted status report in compliance of the said direction indicating, as far as the western zone is concerned around 4226 Non Bailable Warrants were pending. Further that report was filed on 24.01.2023.

This Court has sought for further particular about the pendency of Non Bailable Warrants through out the State and Union

Territory of Pondicherry, and in response to the said order, status report dated 17.03.2023 filed wherein it is stated that as of now 26,323 NBW are pending for execution and between the period 01.03.2023 to 07.03.2023, a drive named "operation warrant" was conducted and about 5,987 warrant were executed so far and the total pendency has dropped down to 32,310.

The statistic provided by the Director General of Police is recorded and while appreciating the action taken by the State Police in the past one week, this Court expect the State police to continue its pursuit and the responsibility to execute the pending warrant as expeditiously as possible.

Since the appeal has already been disposed of, no further order is required.
