The instant writ petition has been filed with a prayer for issuing a Mandamus to direct the respondents to pass orders on the representation dated 24.02.1994 and the reminder representation dated 14.08.2024 made by the petitioner for alteration of date of birth as 07.03.1966 instead of 07.10.1966 in the service register pending on the file of the first and second respondents within a limited time frame.
2. The learned Senior Counsel appearing for the petitioner would submit that the petitioner joined in the respondent/Department as Assistant Engineer on 28.08.1991. Subsequently, he was promoted to various posts and was finally promoted as Chief Engineer during 2024-25. According to the petitioner, his correct date of birth is 07.10.1966, whereas in his service 2/6
register, it was entered as 07.03.1966. Therefore, as contemplated under the Tamil Nadu State and Subordinate Service Rules, he has sent a representation dated 24.02.1994 within the time limits prescribed under the said Rules. However, such representation has not been disposed of, and in this connection, the petitioner has sent various reminders since 1999 to 2024. Despite sending various reminders, the respondents have not passed any order.
3. The learned Additional Government Pleader appearing for the respondents would strongly object the contention made by the learned Senior Counsel.
4. I have given my anxious consideration to either side submission.
5. From the submission made by the learned Senior Counsel, the petitioner reaches superannuation in the year 2026, and therefore, the expectation of the petitioner for speedy disposal of his request dated 24.02.1994, is justifiable.

In view of the above reason, without going to merits of this Writ Petition, this Court deems it appropriate to direct the first respondent to consider the petitioner's representation/request dated 24.02.1994, which has been reminded under various representations commencing from 1999 to 2024, and pass orders on its own merits and in accordance with law, within a period of eight weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.
7. In the result, this Writ Petition is disposed of with the above directions. No costs.
