This writ petition has been filed seeking issuance of a writ of mandamus directing the first respondent to consider the petitioner's representation dated 07.08.2024 wherein the petitioner has sought for payment of family pension.
2. Heard Mr.K.Narayanan, learned counsel for petitioner, Mr.P.Balathandayutham, learned Special Government Pleader appearing for respondents 1 and 2 and Mr.U.Baranidharan, learned Additional Government Pleader appearing for third respondent.
3. The case of the petitioner is that her husband was working as a Sub-Inspector of Police in the Tamil Nadu Police Department. He retired from service on 31.01.2008. The petitioner's husband died on 14.10.2023 leaving behind the petitioner and two daughters as his legal heirs.
4. The petitioner, after obtaining the necessary documents, 2/4
submitted an application on 09.07.2024 to issue family pension in her name. The second respondent, on receipt of the same, forwarded it to the first respondent on 18.07.2024.
5. The grievance of the petitioner is that till date no steps have been taken to process the papers and to pay the family pension to the petitioner. Under such circumstances, the present writ petition has been filed before this Court.
6. Taking into consideration the facts and circumstances of the case and the materials placed before this Court, there shall be a direction to the first respondent to immediately act upon the proceedings of the second respondent dated 18.07.2024 and pass appropriate orders for grant of family pension to the petitioner. This process shall be completed by the first respondent within a period of six (6) weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order. The arrears of family pension shall also be paid to the petitioner within a period of eight (8) weeks thereafter. N.ANAND VENKATESH, J 3/4

7. The petitioner is directed to make a fresh representation to the first respondent along with all relevant documents and a copy of this order.
This writ petition is disposed of with the above direction. No costs.
