ORDER

This writ petition has been filed for direction directing the respondent amend the child name from L.Lakshith to Lakshith Lokesh as per gazette publication date.

2. Heard the learned counsel appearing for the petitioner and the learned Standing Counsel appearing for the respondent and perused the materials available on record.

3. The petitioner got married to one Lokesh and gave birth to a male child on 27.06.2019. Thereafter, they named the child as Lakshith. Accordingly, his birth was registered before the respondent. After Registration of his birth, the respondents issued a birth certificate and mentioned the name of the child with initial. The mother of the child was notified as Suganya.V. Since the petitioner's husband is employed in abroad, it is to adopt the surname along with name of the person and initials are not allowed to adopt in birth records. Accordingly, the petitioner obtained the certificate from the Hospital Authority and also published in the Government Gazettee as Lakshith Lokesh and the same was effected on 23.08.2023. Along with the Tamil Nadu Gazette publication, the petitioner submitted a representation to the respondent to amend the name of the child as Lakshith Lokesh. However, it is pending on the file of the respondent.

4. In view of the above, the respondent is directed to amend the child name from L.Lakshith to Lakshith Lokesh, as per the Gazettee publication dated 23.08.2023, within a period of two weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.

5. With the above directions, this writ petition stands allowed. There shall be no order as to costs.
