ORDER

This Writ Petition has been filed for a direction, directing the second respondent to consider the representation submitted by the petitioner seeking change the street named as 'Chetty Street'.

2. Heard the learned counsel appearing on either side and perused the materials available on record.

3. The petitioner is an Advocate and he is residing at No.19, Chetty Street, Thiruthani, Tiruvallur District. The petitioner and his family members constructed a temple in his street and named it as "Thai Thanthai Temple". The general public are going there to worship. However, the street name is named as Chetty Street and it mentions a particular caste name. The Government of Tamil Nadu passed an order in the year 1978 for removal of the caste name in all the streets. However, the petitioner's street is named as Chetty Street and no steps have been taken so far to change the street name.

4. In view of the above, the second respondent is directed to consider the representation submitted by the petitioner to change the street's name to any other name after giving an opportunity of hearing to the petitioner and the general public, and pass orders on merits and in accordance with law within a period of eight weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.

5. With the above direction, this writ petition stands

disposed of. No costs.
