Respondents Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India praying for issue of Writ of Mandamus to direct the 1st and 2nd respondents to take necessary action as against the illegal sand mining quarries on the banks of Palar river, Vellore District and to stop their illegal sand mining operation by considering the village people's representation dated 25.01.2016 and 28.01.2016 and to dispose of the same within a stipulated period of time.

O R D E R

(Order of the Court was made by The Hon'ble Chief Justice) The petitioner alleges sand quarrying at the banks of Palar river, Vellore District, much beyond what is permitted and it is alleged that no action has been taken despite the representations made on 25.01.2016 and 28.01.2016. https://hcservices.ecourts.gov.in/hcservices/

2.Learned Government Pleader, however, submits that he has received instructions that the licence has been granted only on 25.01.2016 and the petitioner and the villagers have immediately protested. It is stated that necessary permissions have been granted by the Environmental Impact Assessment Authority. 3.The only direction, thus, to be passed is for the first respondent to examine the representation of the petitioner mentioned aforesaid and to respond to the same by verifying whether all necessary permissions have been obtained and that quarrying is confined to the area and the depth permitted. The needful be done within one (1) month of the receipt of this order.

4.Writ Petition stands disposed of with the aforesaid direction. No costs.
