Respondents Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India praying for issue of Writ of Mandamus to direct the respondents to include the game of rifle shooting as sports event for the purpose of appointment under the sports quota and direct the respondents to consider the petitioner against the sports quota without insisting on Form II and consider the petitioner against 10% sports quota or in the alternative direct the respondents to grant accelerated promotions as Sub Inspector of Police duly considering the petitioner's achievements in the field of rifle shooting in the police department with all consequential benefits.

O R D E R
(Order of the Court was made by The Hon'ble Chief Justice) The petitioner seeks consideration of the game of rifle shooting for purposes of appointment under the sports quota or in the alternative, accelerated promotions as Sub Inspector of Police based on the achievements in the field. 2.The petitioner could not avail of the benefit of this event for purposes of recruitment as Sub-Inspector under sports quota in the examination held pursuant to the notification dated 08.02.2015. She claims to have won National Level Achievement in the sport. A representation was made on 16.03.2015. 3.Learned Additional Advocate General submits that various rewards and awards are given for excellence in particular sports.
However, we are of the view that the petitioner is not raising an issue qua that, but the benefit of achievement of sports in her career profile when such benefits are being given for other sports. As to what sport should get the benefit is for the respondent authorities to consider. We may, however, observe that by no stretch of imagination can rifle shooting be said to be irrelevant to the police duties. In fact, the idea is to encourage sports and in the present case, it is the sport which is directly relevant for police duties. 4.We are sure that taking the aforesaid aspect into consideration, the respondents would favourably consider the request of the petitioner and a decision be taken in this behalf within a maximum period of two (2) months from the date of receipt of this order, with reasons so recorded.
We may note that learned Additional Advocate General sought extended time, but we do not think this is a major policy decision which would require such a detailed examination.
