The petitioner seeks anticipatory bail in Crime No.432 of 2023 registered by the respondent police for the offences punishable under Sections 273 & 328 of IPC and Section 24(1) of the Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003.

2. The petitioner is actually working as Grade-I Police Constable in Mangalampettai Police Station at Cuddalore District. It had been stated that A1 and A3 were found selling of tobacco products and the allegation against the petitioner herein is that he had obtained bribe of Rs.80,000/- from A1 and A3 as protection money from them to sell the tobacco products.

3. In view of the fact that the petitioner had acted against the conduct rules of his own Police Department, this Court is not inclined to grant anticipatory bail to the petitioner.

4. Accordingly, this criminal original petition is dismissed. Specific direction is hereby given to the respondent to take the petitioner into custody, within a period of five days from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.
