ORDER

(Order of the Court was made by S.S.SUNDAR, J.) Seeking a direction to the second respondent to produce the detenue viz., Abirami, D/o.Selvam, aged about 19 years before this Court and to set her at liberty, mother of the detenue has filed this habeas corpus petition.

2. It is the case of the petitioner that her daughter was studying second year B.Sc (Chemistry) in a college in Chennai. It is stated that the detenue was missing from 25.09.2023 and on enquiry, the petitioner came to know that the detenue did not go to college. Therefore, a complaint was lodged on 25.09.2023 and a case was registered in Crime No.240 of 2023 for 'woman missing'.

3. Learned Additional Public Prosecutor submits that the body of the detenue was recovered from a railway track and a case was registered in Crime No.135 of 2023 on the file of Perambur Police Station under Section 174 Cr.P.C. Learned Additional Public Prosecutor has filed a status report indicating the further investigation as to the cause of death and there is a possibility of suicide. Investigation also revealed that the detenue was in

depression and she was admitted in Government Hospital for treatment.

4. Since the detenue is no more, this habeas corpus petition is closed with a direction to the respondent police to complete the investigation and proceed in accordance with law. (S.S.S.R., J.) (S.M., J.) 29.11.2023 Index : Yes / No mmi To 1.The Commissioner of Police, Egmore, Chennai - 8.
