S.M.SUBRAMANIAM,J.

Learned Standing Counsel appearing for the Chennai Corporation would submit that pursuant to the proceedings of the Regional Deputy Commissioner (Central Corporation of Chennai), obstructions in the road has already been removed, i.e.,encroachments in the public road had been removed. As far as the relief sought for in the present writ petition is concerned, the Tahsildar, Purasawalkam Taluk, conducted a survey and found that the calculation of the entire extent of land made by the petitioner is not in accordance with G.O.Ms.No.2874, Revenue, dated 20.07.1956. As per the Government order, the survey has been conducted and the actual extent of land allotted by the Government to the Tamil Nadu Secretariat employees are stated in paragraph No.4 of

the status report, as under.

4. I respectfully submit that by verifying records as per the Permanent Land Register under maintenance of this office, the extent of the said land is furnished as 18 Cawnies 22 grounds and 377 Sq.feet. Whereas the Petitioner Society misconstrued the extent as 18,22,377 Sq.feet. Actually, the extent of 18 cawnies, 22 grounds and 377 is converted into Sq.feet as follows: 1 Cawnie is equal to = 24 grounds 18 cawnies is equal to = 18 x 24 = 432 grounds Therefore Total extent of 454 Grounds (I.e.432+22 = 454 grounds Works out to (454 x 2400=1089600) = 10,89,600 Sq.feet Add 377 sq.feet = 377 -------------------------- Therefore the actual extent of S.No.3280/1 is equal to =10,89,977 Sq.feet.

--------------------------

2. In view of the above position, the Writ Petition is disposed of. No costs. Consequently, connected miscellaneous petition is closed. (S.M.S.,J.) (C.K.,J.) 08.12.2025 vsi Index : Yes Speaking order : Yes
