ORDER

(Order of the Court was made by The Hon'ble Chief Justice) Pursuant to the direction issued upon receipt of the contempt petition, an affidavit has been filed by the State.

2. Such affidavit indicates that at the time that the relevant order was passed by this Court directing the vacancies to be filled up expeditiously, there were 91 vacancies in teaching posts in government-aided colleges. The State's affidavit indicates that not only have the 91 vacancies that existed at the relevant point of time now been filled up, several subsequent vacancies have also been filled up and, against a total sanctioned strength at present of 2139 posts in government aided colleges, 1818 posts have been filled up, leaving 321 vacant.

3. While it is appreciated that there may always be some amount of vacancy, but the State should endeavour that the percentage of vacancy is reduced to 5% and measures are taken ahead of vacancies arising to fill up the posts so that the process of education at government-aided colleges is not hindered.

4. Since the affidavit indicates due compliance to the relevant order, Contempt Petition No.1971 of 2019 is dropped. There will be no order as to costs.
