O R D E R

The petitioner, who is the mother-in-law of the fourth respondent, entered into a tenancy agreement with him for running a party hall business, investing over Rs.25 lakhs in renovations. Due to ongoing family disputes, the fourth respondent allegedly attempted to assault the petitioner's husband, Mr.T.Sakthivel, and her daughter, Mrs.S.Kanagasakthi and her two female children. On 27.08.2024, the fourth respondent issued an eviction notice, and on 13.09.2024, he and a group of individuals unlawfully attempted to dispossess the petitioner from the party hall. Despite filing multiple complaints, including one against police officers who allegedly aided the fourth respondent, no action has been taken. Hence, the petitioner has filed this petition seeking police protection.

2. Considering that the core of the dispute pertains to family matters and a tenancy agreement, the issue of police protection may not be justified. Police protection is typically granted in cases where there is a clear and immediate Pg.Nos.2/4

threat to life or property, arising from criminal conduct or unlawful actions. In this case, the dispute appears to be more related to personal and familial conflicts, which do not warrant intervention by the police. Additionally, the petitioner has the option to seek a resolution of the tenancy dispute through the appropriate legal forums, such as the Rent Control Authority. Therefore, the writ petition is dismissed. However, liberty is given to petitioner to work out her remedy in the manner known to law.
