This Writ Petition has been filed seeking a direction to the respondents to consider the representations of the petitioner dated 02.09.2022, 12.07.2024 and 03.10.2024 with regard to reduction of Property Tax in Zone No.10, Ward No.137, Assessment No.07849 to Town Survey No.388/1 in Kodambakkam Zone of the respondent Corporation, i.e., premises bearing Door No.2/1, Ponnammal Nagar 1st Stree, Nesapakkam, Chennai 600 078.

Learned counsel appearing for the petitioner submitted that the petitioner has purchased a house plot measuring 602 sq.ft in Survey No.387/1 in Plot No.2 at Kodambakkam Village, Egmore along with thatched hut constructed in the said land by sale deed dated 08.06.1989 from Rajendran and Nirmalandan. Later, the petitioner constructed a pucca storied building within a plinth area of 546 sq.ft for residential purpose. As per the extract
from the Town Survey Register, the house plot in T.S.No.388/1 stand in the name of the petitioner and he has paid the Property Tax without default. The respondent/Corporation levied half yearly Property Tax from the said house property and it was raised to Rs.3745/- from the assessment year 2022-23. For which, the petitioner made a representation dated 02.09.2022 before the respondents for reducing tax. On 12.07.2024, the respondents/Corporation all of a sudden, has increased the half yearly tax to Rs.13,395/-. Thereafter, on 12.07.2024, the petitioner gave another representation to the respondents/Corporation and the respondents have not responded so far. Hence, the Writ Petition is filed.
3. Learned Standing Counsel appearing for the respondents 2 to 4 submits that the petitioner's representation would be considered on merits and in accordance with law by the authority concerned.
4. Heard both sides and perused the materials available on record.
5. Without going into the merits of the case, the respondents 2 to 4 are directed to consider the representation of the petitioner dated
03.10.2024 and pass appropriate orders on merits and in accordance with law, preferably, within a period of six weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.
6. In the result, the writ petition stands disposed of with the above observation and direction. No costs.
