Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India praying to issue a writ of mandamus directing 1st respondent Anna University to consider representations of the petitioner dated 15.11.2023 in line with orders of this Court in WP No. 29486 of 2019 dated 26.11.2019 as confirmed in WA No. 51 of 2020 dated 14.2.2020 and S.L.P(C) No. 8324 - 8325 of 2020 dated 24.07.2020 and notify the autonomous status granted by the 2nd respondent in Order No. F.2-10/2023/(AC-Policy) dated 13.11.2023 as per Regulation 4.2 of University Grants Commission (Conferment of Autonomous Status Upon Colleges and Measures for Maintenance of Standards in Autonomous Colleges) Regulations, 2023.

The petitioners cites orders of this Court in W.P.No.29486 of 2019 dated 26.11.2019 as confirmed in W.A.No.51 of 2020 dated 14.02.2020, S.L.P(c) Nos. 8324 - 8325 of 2020 dated 24.07.2020 in this regard.

No counter has been filed in the matter but the petitioners maintain that it would suffice that an order be passed directing the first respondent to consider the representation filed by its, expeditiously.

Hence mandamus is issued to R1 to consider representations dated 14.11.2023 & 15.11.2023 and pass orders in accordance with law within a period of four weeks from date of receipt of a copy of this order.

My attention is further drawn to letter dated 10.01.2024 issued by R2 to the Vice Chancellors of all Universities wherein the Universities have been requested to implement all prevailing Regulations including the UGC (Conferment of Autonomous Status upon Colleges and Measures for Maintenance of Standards in Autonomous Colleges) Regulations, 2023 in letter and spirit. This may be borne in mind by R1 while disposing the representation as directed above.

These writ petition stand disposed in terms of this order. No costs.
