The Criminal Original Petition has been filed seeking to quash the First Information Report filed against the petitioners in Crime No.15 of 2025 pending on the file of the first respondent Police . Heard both sides and perused the materials available on record.

Based on the complaint lodged by the second respondent, who is the wife of the first petitioner, alleging that her husband/A1 and her in-laws had ill-treated her and committed acts of cruelty, the present case came to be registered on 03.03.2025 for the offence under Sections 85, 296(b) and 351(2) of BNS.

A perusal of the entire allegations in the FIR indicates that the first petitioner is a marine engineer and due to the nature of his employment, certain disputes had arisen within the family. Though it is alleged that the petitioners had subjected the de facto complainant to cruelty, the allegations appears to be a general and omnibus in nature. 2/4

However, considering the same, the entire complaint cannot be quashed and this Court finds no merits in the petition to quash the First Information Report. However, the Investigating Officer shall conduct the investigation in the manner known to law and if no materials are found against the inlaws of the de facto complainant, proceed only against the first accused. 5.

Accordingly, the Criminal Original Petition stands dismissed. The respondent Police are directed to complete the investigation within a period of two months from the date of receipt of copy of this order. Consequently, the connected miscellaneous petition is closed. 06.10.2025 ham To 1.
