Contempt Petitions have been filed under Section 11 of the Contempt of Courts Act, 1971 praying to punish the respondent for wilful disobedience of the order dated 19.10.2024 made in W.P.Nos.23689, 23686, 24413, 25994, 25997, 24411, 25951, 23693, 24114 of 2024, respectively. For Petitioner(s):

COMMON ORDER Pursuant to the earlier order passed by this Court on 25.08.2025, the matters were taken up for hearing today.

2. The learned Senior Counsel appearing on behalf of Annamalai University produced the proceedings of the University dated 04.09.2025. It is seen that the earlier proceedings dated 16.07.2024 were cancelled and the pay of each of the petitioners has been revised and re-fixed as explained in Annexure-II with monetary benefits with effect from 01.07.2024.

3. There are totally nine petitioners before this Court and out of the same, five persons have already retired and four of them are continuing in service.

The learned counsel for petitioners submitted that the persons who have already retired are totally depending upon the pension and hence, directions may be issued to settle the arrears of pension and further direct the University to pay the revised monthly pension at least from October, 2025 onwards. The learned counsel further submitted that insofar as the four petitioners who are in service, a direction may be issued to the University to pay the revised salary, consequent upon the re-fixation, from October, 2025 onwards. The learned counsel fairly submitted that the arrears of pay from 01.07.2024 shall be paid within the time frame fixed by this Court.

Taking into consideration the facts and circumstances of the case and the earlier orders passed by this Court and taking note of the proceedings of the respondent University dated 04.09.2025, the following directions are issued to the University:- (a) Insofar as the petitioners in Cont.P.Nos.4067, 4068, 4069, 4071 & 4075 of 2024, who had retired from service, their revised pay consequent upon the re-fixation as shown in Annexure-II of the proceedings dated 04.09.2025, shall form the basis of monthly pension payable to them from October, 2025 onwards;

(b) Insofar as the arrears of pay w.e.f. 01.07.2024 to the above petitioners, the same shall be settled to them within a period of three months from the date of receipt of a copy of this order;

(c) Insofar as the petitioners in Cont.P.Nos.4070, 4072, 4073 & 4074 of 2024, who are continuing in service, the revised salary consequent upon the re-fixation of pay, shall be paid to them from October, 2025 onwards; and (d) Insofar as the arrears of pay w.e.f. 01.07.2024 to the above petitioners, the same shall be settled in their favour within a period of three months from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.

6. With the above directions, all these contempt petitions are closed. Post these contempt petitions after three months under the caption 'for reporting compliance'.
