The petitioner's plea was to return his driving licence bearing No.TN 25 19960000863. The licence had been seized by the third respondent/Police on account of an accident that had taken place with the vehicle driven by the petitioner on 01.09.2025.

On 08.10.2025, I took note of the judgment of the Division Bench of this Court which had held that only after conclusion of the criminal proceedings, the cancellation proceedings can be initiated by respondents 1 and 3 herein. Therefore, I directed Mr.L.S.M.Hasan Fizal, learned Additional Government Pleader appearing for respondents 1 and 2 to bring the original driving licence, so that the same may be handed over to the writ petitioner.
