Prayer: Writ Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India to issue a Writ of Mandamus to direct the 1st to 3rd respondents to take immediate and effective steps to remove all encroachments from Vannan Kulam, situated at Sathyavani Muthu Street, Parameswaran Nagar, Ward No.199, Sholinganallur Zone, Chennai and prevent discharge of sewage or dumping of waste in to the said water body consequently direct the 1 st to 3rd

respondents to restore and maintain the Vannankulam in its original condition as a public water body.

Writ of Mandamus has been instituted to direct the 1st to 3rd respondents to take immediate and effective steps to remove all encroachments from Vannan Kulam, situated at Sathyavani Muthu Street, Parameswaran Nagar, Ward No.199, Sholinganallur Zone, Chennai and prevent discharge of sewage or dumping of waste into the said water body, consequently, direct the 1st to 3rd respondents to restore and maintain the Vannankulam in its original condition as a public water body.

2. The Chennai Corporation filed a status report stating that steps have been taken to safeguard water body in question from any encroachment by constructing a compound wall around Vannan Kulam at Sathyavani Muthu Street, Parameswaran Nagar, Sholinganallur, Chennai. The work is in progress.

3. Learned Standing Counsel for Corporation would submit that the

construction of compound wall work will be completed expeditiously.

4. In view of the said submission, the respondents are directed to complete the construction of compound wall and ensure that the water body is protected from encroachments and utilise the same for public purposes.
