Respondents Prayer : Writ Petition is filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India praying to issue a Writ of Mandamus, directing the 2nd respondent to consider petitioner's representation dated 27.10.2025 seeking to give preference to his 1/5

application, other things being equal, in selecting candidate for the above said post of Office Assistant (OA) in the office of the 3rd respondent Kaveripakkam Panchayat Union, Kaveripakkam, Nemili Taluk, Ranipet District. ORDER

This Writ Petition has been filed seeking a direction to the second respondent to consider the representation submitted by the petitioner, requesting preference to his application for appointment to the post of Office Assistant in the office of the third respondent.

2.Heard the learned counsel appearing on either side and perused the materials available on record.

3.The petitioner is qualified with 8th Standard and applied for the post of Office Assistant pursuant to the notification issued by the third respondent. The petitioner also attended the interview on 25.10.2025. The petitioner's only 2/5

apprehension appears to be that the persons, who are more qualified and also attended the interview, may be selected. Since the petitioner possesses the prescribed minimum qualification, he is eligible to be considered for appointment to the post of Office Assistant. However, the petitioner cannot seek any preferential treatment in the selection process. Selection has to be made only on merit, based on the marks obtained in the interview and in accordance with the applicable rules.

4.In view of the above, the relief sought for in this writ petition cannot be granted. Thus, the writ petition lacks merits and is liable to be dismissed. Accordingly, this Writ Petition stands dismissed. There shall be no order as to costs.
