ORDER
The Writ Petition is filed seeking a Writ of Mandamus directing the first
respondent to dispose of the petitioner's representation dated 03.07.2025 in the light of the proceedings of the second respondent in Se.Mu.Order.No: E8 / 00410/ 2022 dated 18.10.2023 fixing minimum wages for the daily rated employees working in the godowns of the respondent Corporation.
2. The petitioners state that they have been engaged by the respondent/Corporation for cleaning works in various godowns since 1994. They contend that for identical nature of work, the respondent/Corporation engaged contract labourers who were paid Rs.522/- per day, as fixed by the 2 nd respondent. In contrast, the petitioners were paid a meager sum of Rs.1,000/- to Rs.2,000/- per month in cash. The petitioners assert that such arbitrary disparity violates the constitutional mandate of "equal pay for equal work" provided under Articles 14, 16 and 21 of the Constitution of India. The petitioners submitted a representation to the first respondent on 03.07.2025, seeking parity in pay with the contract workers performing same duties. Since the representation was not considered, the petitioners filed the above writ petition for the aforesaid relief.
3. Heard the learned counsel for the petitioners and the learned standing counsel for the respondents and perused the materials available on record.

From the proceedings of the second respondent dated 18.10.2023, it is evident that the 2 nd respondent has fixed minimum wage of Rs.522/- per day for contract workers, performing cleaning work in the godowns. The petitioners also perform similar nature of work and therefore, seek parity in pay on the principle of equal pay for equal work. The petitioners' representation dated 03.07.2025, is kept pending without consideration till date.

Considering the facts and circumstances of the case, this Court is inclined to direct the first respondent to consider the petitioners' representation dated 03.07.2025 and pass appropriate orders on merits and in accordance with law within a period of four weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.
