ORDER

This criminal original petition has been filed seeking to direct the learned Judicial Magistrate-I, Alandur to dispose of the case in C.C.No.216 of 2024 arising out of Crime No.31 of 2017 registered for the offences under Sections 465, 468 and 471 of IPC, 12(1-A)(a) of the Passports Act, 1967 and Section 14 of the Foreigners Act, 1946 on the file of the respondent Police, within a period of three months.

2. When the matter was taken up for hearing, the learned Government Advocate (Crl. Side) appearing for the respondent submitted that it is a case of possessing fake passport; the 1st accused in this case had passed away; the 3rd accused is appearing before the trial court regularly; the petitioner herein is the 2nd accused and he is a Sri Lankan national; there are seven witnesses in this case and the case is now posted on 19.01.2026 for questioning. He further submitted that apart from this case, there are two other cases pending against the petitioner and the petitioner is currently in prison. 2/5

Considering the facts and circumstances of the case and also considering that the complaint is of the year 2017 and the charge sheet has been filed in the year 2024, after about seven years, despite which, the trial is still pending and also considering the petitioner is currently in prison, this Court directs the learned Judicial Magistrate-I, Alandur, to complete the trial in C.C.No.216 of 2024 as expeditiously as possible, preferably within a period of six months from 19.01.2026.

4. With the above directions, this criminal original petition stands disposed of.
