O R D E R

This Criminal Original Petition has been filed to direct the learned II Additional Special Court for Exclusive Trial of Cases under NDPS Act, Chennai for speedy disposal of the proceedings in C.C.No.750 of 2025, now pending at the appearance stage, within a time period as may be fixed by this Court.

2. The learned counsel for the petitioner would submit that the petitioner is working as a contract labour in the Electricity Board and due to the pendency of this case, his confirmation is not being done.

3. A Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court, in the case of High Court Bar Association, Allahabad vs. State of Uttar Pradesh reported in (2024) 6 SCC 267, has held that the constitutional courts, in the ordinary course, should refrain from fixing a time-bound schedule for the disposal of cases pending before any other courts.

4. However, in the present case, taking into consideration the peculiar circumstances, a direction is issued to the learned Special Judge to attempt to dispose the case in C.C.No.750 of 2025, as expeditiously as possible preferably within a period of one year from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.

5. With the above direction, this Criminal Original Petition is disposed of.
