ORDER
This writ petition has been filed seeking to issue a direction to the respondents to furnish a copy of the CCTV Video footage said to have been
collected on 22.11.2025 from OASIS Computer Shop, Anna Salai, based on the petitioner's complaint dated 21.11.2025 and representation dated 23.11.2025.
2. The case of the petitioner is that on 21.11.2025, while he was returning home after meeting his advocate around 7 p.m., one Mohamed Shahil and another person followed him in a motor bike and around 7.15 p.m near OASIS Computer Shop, Anna Salai, Chennai, they waylaid and threatened him with dire consequences and abused him in filthy language. The petitioner gave a complaint to the respondent police informing about the incident and also seeking a copy of CCTV footage relating to the incident. It is the further case of the petitioner that the respondent police have not collected the CCTV footage so far and hence, the present petition has been filed seeking the aforesaid prayer.
3. The learned Government Advocate (Crl. Side) submitted that based on the representation of the petitioner dated 23.11.2025, the CCTV footage relating to the incident that occurred at 7.15. p.m., on 21.11.2025 has already been collected by the respondent police and investigation is going on. He further submitted that despite notice given to the petitioner, he has not appeared for the purpose of enquiry and he is not cooperating in the enquiry. He further submitted that the copy of the CCTV footage is a material which has to be seen during the course of investigation and the petitioner is not entitled to the same.
4. At this juncture, the learned counsel for the petitioner submitted that no notice for enquiry has been given.
5. In view of the above, holding that the petitioner is not entitled to the copy of the CCTV footage, a direction is issued to the respondents to issue appropriate summons to the petitioner. The petitioner shall cooperate in the enquiry.
6. With the above observation, this writ petition stands disposed of. The respondent police are directed to complete the enquiry on the case of the petitioner, as expeditiously as possible, preferably within a period of two months from today. No costs. Consequently, connected miscellaneous petition is closed.
