This Writ Petition has been filed seeking a direction to the respondent to pay interest to the petitioners at the rate of 6% per annum for the belated
settlement of terminal benefits by considering their representation dated 07.11.2025 and 12.12.2025 respectively.
2. It is the case of the petitioners that they were appointed in the respondent Corporation on 13.05.21988, 27.04.1988 and 04.06.1997 and retired on 30.06.2024 and 31.05.2024 respectively. However, the terminal benefits have been settled only on 02.12.2025. Therefore, the petitioners claimed 6% interest on the belated settlement of retirement benefits and they also made representation in this regard to the respondent on 07.11.2025 and 12.12.2025 respectively, however, there was no response so far. Hence, the present Writ Petition.
3. Heard the learned counsels appearing on either side and perused the materials available on record. With the consent of both sides, the Writ Petition is taken up for hearing at the admission stage itself.
4. In view of the limited request made by the petitioners with regard to interest on the belated settlement of retirement benefits, this Court directs
the respondents to pay interest at the rate of 6% p.a. for the belated payment of retirement benefits from the date of retirement to till the date of actual disbursal of the retirement benefits of the petitioners, if there is no other impediment in disbursing the same, within a period of six weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order, taking into account the bank rate of interest on deposits.
5. Accordingly, this Writ Petition is disposed of. There shall be no order as to costs.
