ORDER

Asserting that an immovable property belonging to the petitioner's aunt devolved on the petitioner's mother and that the petitioner's mother executed a settlement deed in favour of the petitioner, the petitioner has approached this Court.

2. Learned counsel for the petitioner submits that a settlement deed was presented for registration on 28.04.2025 and that the same is pending registration under pending Document No.96 of 2025 till date.

3. Ms.Akila Rajendran, learned Government Advocate accepts notice on behalf of the sole respondent. On the basis of written instructions, she submits that the relationship certificate submitted by the petitioner was found to be not genuine and that a rival claim has been made over the same property under pending Document No.244 of 2025. She submits that the petitioner's document has been kept pending in these facts and circumstances.

4. When a document is presented for registration, the registering officer is under an obligation to either register the document or refuse to do so by recording reasons therefor. In the case at hand, the document has been pending since April 2025. Therefore, this writ petition is disposed of by directing the __________Page 2 of 4

respondent to either register the pending Document No.96 of 2025 or issue a speaking order of rejection. These actions shall be taken within two weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.
