O R D E R

The petitioner, who apprehends arrest by the respondent police for the offences punishable under Sections 6(4) of Tamil Nadu Scheduled Commodities (RDCS) Order, 1982 and 7(1)(a)(ii) of Essential Commodities Act, 1955 in Crime No.196 of 2025 registered on the file of the respondent police seeks anticipatory bail.

2. The allegation against the petitioner is that he was involved in the possession and transportation of 1050 kgs of rice meant for the Public Distribution System. It is alleged that, on inspection of the vehicle, the petitioner ran away from the scene of occurrence and the property was seized by the respondent police. Hence, the complaint.

3. The learned counsel for the petitioner submitted that the petitioner is an innocent person and has been falsely implicated in this case. He further submitted that he is ready to abide by any conditions that may be imposed by this Court. Hence, he prayed to grant anticipatory bail to the petitioner.

4. The learned Government Advocate (Crl.Side) appearing for the respondent reiterated the prosecution case and submitted that the petitioner is the owner cum driver of the vehicle and that the petitioner has no previous case pending against him. She further submitted that the property was recovered and that the investigation is pending.

5. Considering the fact that a huge quantity of rice was involved in the alleged possession and transportation by the petitioner, and though the petitioner is not having any previous case, this Court is of the view that, at this stage, if anticipatory bail is granted, there is a likelihood of the petitioner indulging in similar activities.
