Respondents Prayer : Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India seeking a writ of Mandamus directing the respondents to consider the petitioner representations dated 22.10.2025 and 19.12.2025 to forthwith close the TASMAC Shop No.7269 and 7200 situated at Back side of Arulmigu Anjaneyar Swamy Temple (Shri Madhwa Mutt) Salem Town.

ORDER

(Order of the Court was made by the Hon'ble Chief Justice) This petition has been filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India seeking a direction to respondents to consider the representations dated 22.10.2025 and 19.12.2025 forthwith and close the TASMAC Shop Nos.7269 and 7200 situated at the back side of Arulmigu Anjaneyar Swamy Temple (Shri Madhwa Mutt) Salem Town.

2. The State has filed a reply disputing the existence of the temple within 50 metres of the shop violating Rule 8(1) of the Tamil Nadu Liquor Retail Vending (Shops and Bars) Rules, 2003.

3. Petitioner, in his petition, has not stated clearly as to the

distance between the temple and shop. In such circumstances, we direct the fourth respondent to decide the pending representations of petitioner in accordance with law and pass a reasoned and speaking order, as expeditiously as possible, preferably within four weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order. We have not expressed any opinion on the merits of the case.
