ORDER

This Court, by a detailed order dated 31.1.2019, had directed as follows:- "Today, Mr.M.Jayakumar, Manager, Canara Bank, Sholinganallur, Chennai, the respondent appeared before the Court.

The learned counsel appearing for the respondent submitted that the payment of interest at the rate of 9.5% per annum from the date of deposit till the date of realisation needs to be reexamined, because, as per the rules of the Bank, the savings bank account

yields only six per cent interest per annum. Whereas a direction has been issued by this Court to pay interest at the rate of 9.5% per annum from the date of deposit till the date of realisation. With regard to that, a writ appeal has been filed and the same is in unnumbered stage.

2. The learned counsel for the petitioner submitted that subject to the result of the unnumbered writ appeal, the respondent may be directed to refund Rs.6,00,000/- with the admitted rate of interest at 6% per annum to the petitioner.

3. Therefore, the respondent is hereby directed to refund Rs.6,00,000/- along with the admitted rate of interest at 6% per annum from the date of deposit till the date of realisation to the petitioner. List the matter after two weeks for reporting compliance. The personal appearance of the officer is dispensed with."

Today, when the matter was taken up, the learned counsel for the respondent Bank submitted that the order passed by this Court directing the Bank to refund a sum of Rs.6,00,000/- along with the admitted rate of interest at 6% per annum from the date of deposit till the date of realisation, has been duly complied with by crediting the proceeds to the savings bank account of the petitioner,

after adjusting a sum of Rs.1,00,000/- already withdrawn by the petitioner. He has also produced the letter of acknowledgment given by the petitioner.

3. Since the proceeds of the fixed deposit had been credited to the savings bank account of the petitioner for her use, this contempt petition stands closed.
