O R D E R

The present Writ Petition has been filed for issuance of a Writ of Mandamus to direct the respondent to dispose of the petitioner's representation dated 13.07.2018.

2. According to the learned counsel appearing for the petitioner, the passport of the petitioner was handed over to the Regional Passport Officer, Kolkata, in connected with the criminal case. Later the same was returned by them and it was dispatched to the Regional Passport Officer, Chennai. When the petitioner requested for the return of the passport, it was informed that the same was kept in the safe custody, as there was a case pending against the petitioner. Therefore, the petitioner had filed Crl.O.P.No.26154 of 2017 and took direction from this Court for return of the passport. Accordingly, the passport was returned to the petitioner.

3. According to the petitioner, the validity of the passport is 04.12.2026 and due to exhaustion of pages, he has applied for fresh passport and made a request on 13.07.2018, https://hcservices.ecourts.gov.in/hcservices/

but, the same is yet to be considered by the respondent.

4. The learned counsel appearing for the respondent would submit that the verification will be done in this regard as to whether any criminal case is currently pending against the petitioner and if no impediment for issuing a fresh passport, the same will be done immediately.

5. Considering the submissions made by the learned counsel appearing for the respondent, the respondent is directed to verify, consider and issue a new passport, if everything is in order. However, such a exercise shall be completed within a period of four (4) weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.
