This Writ Petition has been filed to direct the first respondent, i.e., the Secretary to Government, Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Department, Chennai to pass appropriate orders on the proposals sent by the
Director of Social welfare, Chennai vide letter in Na.Ka.No.38295/eph; 6(3)/2019, dated 20.11.2021 and Na.Ka.No.38295/eph;6(3)/2019, dated 03.03.2022 regarding grant of Special Monthly Pension of Rs.2,000/- to the petitioners.
2. The case of the petitioners is that the petitioners were initially appointed as Noon Meal Organizers and thereafter, they were promoted as Office Assistants and subsequently, retired from service. Their grievance is that similarly placed persons like that of the petitioners were granted Special Monthly Pension of Rs.2,000/- as per G.O.(Perm)No.41, Social Welfare and Nutritious Meal Programme Department, dated 29.08.2019 and the same have not been granted to the petitioners. In order to avail such benefits, the petitioners have made representations to the Government for payment of Special Monthly Pension of Rs.2,000/- as per the said Government Order. The Commissioner of Social Welfare, Chennai, vide letter in Na.Ka.No. 38295/eph;6(3)/2019, dated 20.11.2021 and Na.Ka.No.38295/eph; 6(3)/2019, dated 03.03.2022 has informed that the proposals have been sent to Government for sanction of Special Monthly Pension. But till date, the
Government has not yet passed any orders. Therefore, the petitioner has filed the present Writ Petition with the aforesaid prayer.
3. The learned counsel appearing for the petitioner would submit that it would suffice, if the first respondent is directed to consider the proposal dated 03.03.2022, on merits and in accordance with law, within a specified period.
4. The learned Additional Government Pleader appearing for the respondents has no serious objection for such an order being passed by this Court.
5. Considering the limited request made by the learned counsel for the petitioner, this Court, without going into the merits of the matter, directs the first respondent to consider the proposal dated 03.03.2022 and pass appropriate orders, on merits and in accordance with law, within a period of twelve weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.
6. With the above direction, this Writ Petition is disposed of. No costs.
