ORDER

(Order of the Court was made by N.SATHISH KUMAR, J.) The petitioner has filed the present writ petition seeking to quash the impugned order of the second respondent in N.K.No.Ma1/A1/005717/2025 dated 13.08.2025, and consequently to direct the respondents to rectify the error in the computerized records of the respondent Corporation by including 'Pon Veethi' in the records and issuing proper property tax receipts to the residents of Pon Veethi Street, Gomathipuram, Madurai-625020, within a reasonable time. 2/7

2. The grievance of the petitioner is that the petitioner's street falls within the Gomathipuram residential area, which was originally annexed to the Corporation in the year 2011. However, while updating the software in 2017, the names of the streets, namely 'Pon Veethi' and 'Vithakar Veethi', were omitted from the list of streets of the Corporation. Therefore, the petitioner has filed this Public Interest Litigation.

3. Mr. N. Dilip Kumar, learned Standing Counsel appearing for the respondent Corporation, submitted that such errors occurred during the software update and that some time is required to obtain a Council resolution.

4. Though it is submitted by the learned counsel for the respondent that a Council resolution is required to re-include the streets in the Corporation records, we are of the view that the mistake occurred during the software update. It is not in dispute that Pon Veethi and Vithakar Veethi form part of the Madurai Corporation, and their omission was due to a technical error, without any fault on the part of the residents. 3/7

5. In view of the above, we hold that no Council resolution is required to include the names of the streets in the computerized records. The first respondent is directed to include the names of 'Pon Veethi' and 'Vithakar Veethi' in the Corporation portal. The said exercise shall be completed within a period of three months from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.

6. With the above direction, the writ petition is disposed of. No costs. Consequently, connected miscellaneous petitions are closed. [N.S.K., J.] & [M.J.R., J.] 02.04.2026 Index :Yes/No Internet :Yes am 4/7
