ORDER

This Writ Petition has been filed to direct the respondents to provide adequate police protection to the villagers participating in the public welfare meeting planned to be held on 20.01.2025 at Illayankudi Ayyanar temple by considering the Petitioner's representation dated 16.12.2024..

2. The contention of the petitioner is that the representatives of 108 villages have planned to conduct meeting and pass resolutions for the welfare of our villagers on 20.01.2025. However, some of the politically influenced persons trying to dissolve the meeting and they have threatened the villagers. Hence, seeking police protection a representation has been given by the petitioner and the same was not considered.

3.This Court has not expressed any of its view with regard to the merits of the representation made by the petitioner. It is needless to point out that whenever a representation of this nature is made, the respondents are duty bound to consider the same in one way or the other. 2/5

Non-consideration of the same would amount to dereliction of ordinary duties of their office and as such, this Court would be justified in invoking its powers conferred under Article 226 of the Constitution of India to direct them to consider the petitioner's representation within a stipulated time.

4. In view of the limited prayer sought for by the petitioner in the petition without going into the merits of the case there shall be a direction to the respondents to consider the representation of the petitioner, dated 16.12.2024 and pass orders on its merits in accordance with law within a period of one week from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.

5.With the above direction the Writ Petition stands disposed of.
