Prayer: Writ Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, praying for issuance of Writ of Mandamus, directing the respondents 2 and 3 to rectify the erroneous reading for the month of October and December 2022 and consequently to reverse the charges and further to replace the electricity meter for electricity service connection bearing Consumer No.05252007557 for the house bearing Door Nos. 63A, 64A, Yolanda, Convent Road, Kodaikanal - 624 101, Dindigul District. ORDER

This writ petition has been filed for the following relief : "directing the respondents 2 and 3 to rectify the erroneous reading for the month of October and December 2022 and consequently to reverse the charges and further to replace the electricity meter for electricity service connection bearing Consumer No.05252007557 for the house bearing Door Nos. 63A, 64A, Yolanda, Convent Road, Kodaikanal - 624 101, Dindigul District."

2. The petitioner would submit that he, along with his son and daughter, purchased a residential house which has been provided with an electricity service connection bearing Consumer No.05252007557. Since the date of purchase, they have been residing in the said premises, and their average bimonthly electricity consumption has never exceeded 1000 units. However, for the billing period of September-October 2022, the consumption was unexpectedly shown as 3170 units. The petitioner orally complained to the 3rd respondent in November 2022, but no action was taken. Consequently, he submitted a written complaint on 08.12.2022 to respondents 2 and 3.

3. For the billing period of November-December 2022, the petitioner's electricity consumption was shown as 32,700 units, resulting in a bill of Rs.3,55,250/-. Once again, the petitioner lodged a complaint in the official portal of TANGEDCO-Consumer Complaint Management System. As no action was taken on the complaint, the petitioner has approached this Court.

4. Heard the learned counsels on either side.

In view of the fact that the petitioner has lodged a complaint in November 2022, the respondents are directed to take action and pass orders, after affording an opportunity of personal hearing to the petitioner. The said exercise shall be completed within a period of one (1) month from the date of receipt of copy of this order.
