The petitioner is before this Court seeking issuance of a Writ of Mandamus directing the second respondent to cancel the legal heirship certificate on the ground that the petitioner and respondents 3 to 7 were not included as legal heirs of the deceased, namely Mayandi.

2. Mr. D. Sadiq Raja, learned Additional Government Pleader, who accepted notice on behalf of respondents 1 and 2, on instructions, placed on record a copy of G.O.(Ms.) No.478, Revenue and Disaster Management Department, dated 29.09.2022, wherein Rule 7(1) provides for an appellate remedy against an order passed by the Tahsildar, with the Revenue Divisional Officer being the appellate authority. He further submitted that the petitioner has not exhausted the efficacious alternative remedy by filing an appeal before the Revenue Divisional Officer and has instead filed the present Writ Petition.

3. In view of the above, this Court is of the opinion that the present Writ Petition is not maintainable without exhausting the alternative statutory remedy. Accordingly, this Writ Petition stands disposed of, preserving liberty to the petitioner to approach the concerned Revenue Divisional Officer seeking cancellation of the legal heirship certificate dated 08.02.2026. No costs.
