[Order of the Court was made by D.KRISHNAKUMAR, J.] Prayer in this writ petition is to direct the respondents to ensure water supply of 120 days from Vaigai Dam to Melur Taluk area by considering the petitioner's representation dated 08.01.2024.
2. The Executive Engineer / seventh respondent has filed a status report dated Nil.01.2024. The relevant portion of the said status report is extracted hereunder:
"2. I humbly submit that, the water is released to single crop area of Periyar main canal and Thirumangalam for Drinking purpose for 10 days from 15.11.2023 for as per G.O.Ms.No.484 of Water Resources Department Dated : 14.11.2023.
3. I humbly submit that the water is released to single crop area of 85563 acre Periyar Main Canal and 19439 acre land under Thirumangalam Main Canal for 90 days as per G.O.Ms.No.545 of Water Resources Department Dated : 19.12.2023 for irrigation purpose.
4. I humbly submit that, the water released to single crop irrigation land under Periyar Main Canal Irrigation System on 19.12.2023. The water is being supplied 90 days (ie upto 18.03.2024) for irrigation purpose. So Totally water is assured for (90+10) = 100 days.
5. I humbly submit that, the water will be released for single crop area for total 120 days based on the water availability (ie)storage position in Vaigai and Periyar Dam as on 18.03.2024."
3. In view of the above, no further adjudication is required in this writ petition and the same is, therefore, closed. No costs. [D.K.K., J.] [R.V., J.] 13.02.2024 NCC :
