Writ Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, praying this Court to issue a Writ of Mandamus, directing the 1st respondent to pass order on review petition submitted by the petitioner on 18.10.2025 within time limit that may be stipulated by this Court. ORDER
The petitioner's wife lodged a complaint as if her husband has demanded dowry. Therefore, a criminal case has been registered against the petitioner in Crime No.18 of 2015 on the file of the All Women Police Station, Srivilliputhur, for the offence under Sections 498(A), 232, 341, 506(i) IPC and Section 4 of Dowry Prohibition Act. Based on the criminal case registered against the petitioner, a disciplinary proceedings was initiated against him in PR No.06 of 2016 and he was also imposed with a punishment of stoppage of increment for a period of three years without cumulative effect, by order dated 14.12.2016. On the appeal filed by the petitioner, the 3rd respondent, namely, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Armed Police, Chennai, by order dated 21.02.2017, 2/6
has modified the punishment of stoppage of increment for a period of two years without cumulative effect. The petitioner has also filed a mercy petition before the 2nd respondent and the same was rejected by order dated 25.05.2018. In the meantime, the criminal case was tried before the Additional Mahila Court, Srivilliputhur, in C.C.No.203 of 2020. After full-fledged trial, the learned Judicial Magistrate, Additional Mahila Court, Srivilliputhur, by Judgment dated 03.09.2025, acquitted the petitioner from criminal charges. Based on the Judgment of the Additional Mahila Court, Srivilliputhur dated 03.09.2025, the petitioner has preferred a review petition before the 1st respondent on 18.10.2025 and the same has not been decided so far. Therefore, the petitioner is before this Court.
2. Mr.G.V.Vairam Santhosh, learned Additional Government Pleader, takes notice for the respondents and submits that the review petition was filed only on 18.10.2025 and the same is still pending and it would be decided within a period of eight weeks.

4. Based on the criminal case registered against the petitioner, a disciplinary proceedings was initiated against him and he was imposed with a punishment. Since the criminal case ended in acquittal, the respondent needs to consider the case of the petitioner. Therefore, the 1st respondent is directed to conclude the review petition filed by the petitioner, within a period of six weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.
5. With the above direction, this writ petition is disposed of. No costs.
