This petition has been filed seeking for grant of permission and adequate police protection to conduct Cockfight on 06.03.2021 and 07.03.2021 at Thangaiyan Temple Ground, Thiruvanaikovil, Trichy District, in connection with Shri Eraniamman Thirukovil Temple Festival.

2.Mr.R.Saravanakumar, learned Government Advocate (Criminal side), who accepts notice on behalf of the respondents, on instructions, would contend that the representation submitted by the petitioner was rejected by the Inspector of Police, Srirangam Police Station on the following grounds:- (i)A Peace Committee Meeting was conducted on 10.02.2021 in connection with the temple festival at Thiruvanaikovil and since there was no consensus of mind between the parties, the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department decided not to conduct the temple festival during the year 2021. (ii)There is a dispute between two community people on account of which three First Information Reports were registered in Crime Nos.381 of 2019, 617 of 2019 and 886 of 2020 of Srirangam Police Station, for various offences including the offences under Sections 307 and 302 of the Indian Penal Code. It is further contended that if Cockfight is allowed to be conducted as per the representation of the present petitioner, there will be a law and order problem in the said area.

3.Recording the said submissions made by the learned Government Advocate (Criminal side), the Writ Petition is dismissed. No costs.
