O R D E R

This petition has been filed by the petitioner/Accused No.10, seeking for earlier disposal of the case in S.C.No.142 of 2019, pending on the file of the learned I Additional District and Sessions Judge, Thoothukudi.

2.Heard the learned counsel on either side.

3.Today, when the matter is taken up for hearing, the learned Additional Public Prosecutor would submit that originally the case was pending trial before the Additional District and Sessions Judge (PCR) Cases, Tirunelveli, since there were allegations under the the provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 against the 13th accused. Now the 13th accused has passed away and thereby, the case has been remitted back to the I Additional District and Sessions Court, Thoothukudi. Now the case stands posted for next hearing on 09.03.2020 for production of death certificate of A-13. He would further submit that there are totally 140 witnesses in the case and that the respondent police are also ready to get along with the trial. Crl.O.P(MD)No.3744/2020 submit that a direction may be issued to the learned Trial Judge to complete the trial and dispose the case, within a stipulated time that may be fixed by this Court.

4.In view of the same, the learned I Additional District and Sessions Judge, Thoothukudi, is directed to complete the trial as expeditiously as possible, preferably, within a period of six months from the next hearing date, ie., 09.03.2020. 5.The Criminal Original Petition stands disposed of accordingly.
