ORDER

This writ petition has been filed seeking a direction to the respondents to grant necessary permission to conduct "Samathuva Pongal Festival" at Government Law College, Madurai on 12.01.2018 from 9 am to 1 pm, on the basis of the petitioner's representation dated 08.01.2018.

2.Heard Mr.R.J.Karthick learned counsel appearing for the petitioner and Mr.M.Rajarajan, learned Government Advocate for the respondents. By consent, the writ petition is taken up for final disposal at the stage of admission itself.

3.According to the petitioners, they are the final year Law College students in the second respondent college. Now, they proposed to conduct "Samathuva Pongal festival" in the second respondent college premises along with all the students belong to all community. But the second respondent refused to give permission to conduct the said festival. Hence, this writ petition has been filed.

4.The learned Government Advocate appearing for the respondents, on instructions, submitted that there is no likelihood of any problem being created by the students during festival and the respondents shall abide by any order passed by this Court.

5.In view of the submission made by the learned Government Advocate and also considering the fact that the students want to conduct Samathuva Pongal festival, the second respondent is directed to give permission to conduct the said festival. However, it is made clear that under the guise of conducting pongal festival, the students in the college should not indulge in violence or create any law and order problem. The learned counsel appearing for the petitioner has also given undertaking to that effect.

6.The writ petition is disposed of with the above direction. No costs.
