Writ Petition is filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India praying for the issuance of a Writ of Mandamus, to direct the second respondent to grant permission and protection for general meeting to be held at Perumal Kovil Sannathi on 09.06.2019.

O R D E R

This Writ Petition has been filed seeking a direction to the second respondent to grant permission and protection for general meeting to be held at Perumal Kovil Sannathi on 09.06.2019.

2. Heard both sides.

3. The grievance of the petitioner is that he proposed to conduct a meeting on 09.06.2019 at Perumal Kovil Sannathi, for which, he approached the second respondent with a representation dated 28.05.2019 seeking permission and protection, but, so far, the same was not considered. In such circumstances, the present Writ Petition has been filed.

4. Today, when the matter was taken up for hearing, the learned Government Advocate (Criminal side) appearing for the respondents, on instructions, submitted that in the place where the petitioner wants to conduct a general meeting, Christian and Muslim community people are residing and all these people are living https://hcservices.ecourts.gov.in/hcservices/

harmony in the said street and permitting the petitioner to conduct a meeting in the said place would lead to law and order problem. In such circumstances, the second respondent requested the petitioner to conduct a meeting inside the temple premises, where he can accommodate more than 50,000 people and that will not cause any problem.

5. At this juncture, the learned counsel appearing for the petitioner submitted that the petitioner is willing to conduct the meeting inside the temple on any other day and he will also make necessary application for the same.

6. In view of the aforesaid submission, the petitioner is directed to file a fresh application to the second respondent seeking permission to conduct a general meeting on any other day inside the temple premises forthwith and on filing such application, the second respondent is directed to consider the same and pass suitable orders on merits and in accordance with law.

7. The Writ Petition stands disposed of with the above direction. No costs.
