PRAYER: Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, to issue a writ of mandamus directing the respondents to consider the presentation of the petitioner dated 14.02.2024 and sanction the improvement works for Ward Nos.7, 8 and 9 of the fifth respondent Peri-Urban Village Panchayat within a time stipulated by this Court.

[Order of the Court was made by The Hon'ble CHIEF JUSTICE] Heard Mr.M.Kannan, learned counsel for the petitioner and Mr.P.Thilakkumar, learned Government Pleader for the respondents.

2. The grievance of the petitioner is that though funds are sanctioned for improvement works for peri-urban village panchayats, no fund is sanctioned for improvement works in Ward Nos.7 to 9 of Sakkimangalam Panchayat. Equitable distribution of funds ought to be done.

3. Learned Government Pleader for the respondents submits that the funds sanctioned are for semi-urban areas i.e. near the urban areas.

4. Be that as it may, the question is about the improvement works. The authority concerned shall take a decision on the representation of the petitioner dated 14.02.2024 on its own merits and in accordance with the policy, preferably within a period of four months from today.

5. The writ petition is, accordingly, disposed of. No costs. [S.V.G., C.J.] [M.S.K., J.] 01.03.2024 NCC :
